Full Overhaul Brings Tug Back in Service
Thanks to the Royston Australia crew, a tug owned and operated by a global port and terminal towage service provider, is back in service in Albany, Western Australia.
We were recently called upon to carry out inspections on the main Niigata 6L28HX engines, propellors, and propellor seal liners. We polished the propellors and replaced the seal liners on the propeller shafts with our own Royston swing set, stripped the engines and sent the components back to our workshop for full overhaul which included fully stripping, cleaning, inspecting, refitting, testing, commissioning and sea trialling them.
“One engine had a coolant leak, so we had to thoroughly examine the components for a potential flaw, finding a leak in the cylinder head, which we repaired in our workshop using OEM parts and a final pressure test prior to sending back to the vessel for installation,” explains Royston Australia operations manager Jack Clark.
Offering both Niigata parts and Niigata factory-trained service technicians, Royston Australia presented the client with a complete package and negotiated around the other painting and blasting works happening on the docked vessel.
